| Our
"magical mystery tour" from Buckhorn Weston. The idea
is to start somewhere that's unfamiliar to the group and for the
five designated leaders to draw straws to determine the order in
which they will lead. Leaders one, two and three have a relatively
easy job -- except they can (and do!!) lead us up obstructed paths
on occasions. The remaining leaders then have to somehow get us
back to the start within the agreed mileage !! It all worked out
pretty well though some deemed the walk "essentially flat and
boring". The highlight was the flooded field on the final section
where, despite various ploys and techniques, just about everyone
got their feet totally water-logged!! |
|

As the second leader Rick needs
to follow the route carefully. What did my nephew Jeremy make of
it all?!! |

Bob was the first leader and within
a kilometre had reached an overgrown path and barbed wire |

Having reached the church at Kington Magna, Bob
and Rosemary can have a laugh as they get ready to hand over the
walk to Rick |
|
Somewhere around the back of Buckhorn
Weston |

Jeremy studies the older generation's techniques |

Janet winching herself down the same awkward stile |

Flat and boring? |

Laurence is now about to take over |

Laurence hands over to Gus and it's
time to think seriously about which paths to use to get us heading
vaguely back towards the start point. It seems Bob, Rosemary and
Celia are having a competing discussion. |

Off again with Alison in front. |

Final stop with Owen the last leader
who led the group back over the railway line and through a mini-swamp! |

Celia wonders if this is acceptable ramblers' behaviour |

Judy gets her first boot full |

Bob watches Janet squelching through the "Comb
Throop paddy field" |

Alice leads the efforts to avoid the swamp |

Judy gets another boot full. |

Alan at full stretch and Rita (?) equally compromised |
I guess it could be described as a memorable walk
with a few unexpected challenges -- in particular the flooded field! |
