Mendip
is one of SEVEN local authority areas within the county of SOMERSET.
Bath and North-East Somerset (BANES) and North
Somerset are now Unitary Authorities which were once part of Somerset.

county of Somerset plus the unitary authority of North Somerset
(which it has split into Woodspring and Clevedon)!
The main "towns"
within Mendip District Council are shown opposite.
Frome is the biggest, being the fourth biggest town in Somerset,
Wells has a cathedral so is in fact a city and Street is still officially
a village
