| On August
24th and 25th several members of the Mendip Ramblers Group joined
the Disabled Ramblers on Exmoor. These adventurous folk drive their
buggies over all sorts of terrain and the occasional tip over seems
to add to their enjoyment !! -- and anyway able-bodied supporters
are always around to right the buggies and re-unite owners with
them!
The pictures below are of Wednesday's
walk from Porlock when the weather at the start left a little to
be desired. The group ascended Hawk Combe almost as far as Whit
Stones. The sun came out on the return journey through Porlockford
and Allerpark Combes and there were good views of Bossington Hill
and Selworthy Beacon. Thursday was bright and breezy for the circular
walk which started from Moor Wood (to the west of Minehead) and
reached Selworthy Beacon via the coastal path. The group were fortunate
to have excellent clear views across to Wales and the Mendips.
The
Disabled Ramblers' Group have their own programme of rambles. They
take place about once a month throughout the summer and several
different parts of the country (e.g. Wales, Yorkshire) are visited.
In each area the help of local RA Groups is encouraged, not only
to accompany the buggies on the rambles but also for planning the
routes beforehand. The
Disabled Ramblers' Group usually visit Somerset. It would be good
if members of other RA groups in the Somerset area could join us
next year (July or August). Look for the dates in your Mendip programme
nearer the time.
